I didn't intend to make a Gilded Age ball gown that actually fits the MET Gala theme, but it just worked out that way! This historical fashion ensemble is the final installment of my Grape Gown series, an early 1890s Italian Renaissance Revival gown (and matching accessories).
As with all the garments I make on my channel, this one is 100% hand sewn using just a needle and thread, and I'd reckon it took around 200-250 hours to complete all the parts, but that's a pretty rough estimate.
The Gilded Age was a period of rapid economic growth in the United States from about 1870 to 1900, and some incredibly charming ensembles existed during those decades, serving as plenty of inspiration for the 2022 Met Gala theme "Gilded Glamour", yet many in the fashion and more niche historical fashion community have expressed their disappointment in the execution of this year's theme.
So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to not only make this ball gown for the event I had planned, but also to live out my historical fantasies where someone shows up to the MET Gala wearing full late 19th century garb.
I hope you enjoy watching the making of this ensemble which in total consists of some refashioned shoes, the umbrella skirt, detachable train, capelet, jabot, soft hat, bodice, and detachable undersleeves.
And most of all, I hope you enjoy watching the reveal which I put a lot of thought into, as I wanted to step it up a notch.
Thank you so much for your support and I'll see you all in two weeks for another video.

![I Tried Wearing an Ancient Greek Bra for a Week
[AD] 🐣 Download Hay Day for free and get 16 exclusive decorations to personalise your farm—worth $15.99! Its available until the 15th of February! #HayDay https://link.haydaygame.com/?action=voucher&code=c58113d7-e0c2-4700-b629-92d666800321
After reconstructing an ancient Greek / ancient Roman bra last year and conducting a preliminary experiment in the video where I wore ancient Greek fashion for 30 days, Ive finally managed to experiment more in-depth with the strophion/strophium and tried wearing it was an entire week, each day in a new way to see which option is the most suitable for support, and also feasible for the historical period.
If youd like to learn about some of the research behind the strophion, Id suggest watching this video: https://youtu.be/KTb0kGlLYEo
And if youd like to see me wearing ancient Greek fashion for 30 days, Id suggest watching this video: https://youtu.be/R5BDyBvB2c4
This was a fun experiment to conduct!
Please note: bust binding may cause injury, so it is important to take precautions. I am not liable for any harm or damage caused.

In this video, I embark on the journey of sewing my great-great grandmas underwear... Let me explain. Im a Volga Tatar, and these are the traditional Volga Tatar undergarments that my great great-great-grandmother would have worn. Ive been heavily researching Volga Tatar historical fashion, even though a lot of information is very challenging to find, and I thought it was time, now that I recently finished sewing a Volga Tatar historical dress, to also sewing some matching historical underwear.
Thanks so much for watching and Ill see you in two weeks for another video!
