I love America. I’m worried about it. And I know I’m not the only one.
I want to say this clearly upfront: so much of my love for the US comes from the people. I’ve travelled around the States over the last two decades, and whether it was big cities like New York or smaller places across the South, I’ve consistently experienced kindness, fun, and genuinely great hospitality.
That’s why this current moment feels so unsettling. Watching political decisions ripple outwards, hearing threats and tensions aimed at allies, and seeing the relationship between the US, the UK, and Europe feel more strained than it has in a long time, it’s hard not to feel a bit bleak about where things are heading.
I’m meant to be travelling to the US in April, and for the first time I’ve found myself hesitating.
