Floating filamentous algae always seems to find its way back into my pond’s swimming area—even after treating the pond and spraying the problem areas. So I tried a ridiculous but surprisingly effective temporary solution: clearing pond algae with my ECHO PB-9010T backpack leaf blower.
The PB-9010T moves an absurd amount of air, and it can quickly push floating algae away from the beach, dock and swimming area. This does not kill the algae or replace proper pond treatment, beneficial bacteria, pond dye or algaecide—but when people are coming over and I need the water looking clean quickly, it works incredibly well.
After seeing what the blower could do on the water, I had to answer another question: could a backpack leaf blower actually propel my jon boat?
I removed the trolling motor, climbed aboard with the ECHO and attempted to turn my little fishing boat into a homemade airboat. Steering it was another story, but the blower absolutely moved the boat!
