In this video, I’m working on my buddy Chris’s old Grasshopper 928D front mount diesel mower. This is a 2002 Grasshopper 928D with a 72-inch front deck, and I compare it against my 2001 Grasshopper 721D with a 61-inch deck.
The 928D is an absolute beast, but it wasn’t cutting and discharging grass quite like it should. After running it in some thick grass, I replaced the deck belt, clutch belts, springs, and blades to see if we could bring the cut quality and discharge back to life.
These old Grasshopper front mount diesel mowers are built like tanks, but after 20+ years, belts, springs, blades, bushings, bearings, and other wear parts matter. A tired mower deck can make a good machine feel weak, especially in tall or heavy grass.
