Ever wondered what it’s like to transition from a Cessna to a multi-million dollar Airbus A220? In today’s episode of Glen's Hangar, I’m flying Mike Victor Uniform out of Oshawa and heading to Montreal-Mirabel (CYMX) for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a session in the CAE A220 full-motion flight simulator!
The journey starts with a complex IFR clearance and some "gnarly" weather brewing south of the lake. I walk you through the flight into Mirabel, including the briefing for the ILS Runway 24 approach.
Once on the ground, things get real. I join the team at the Airbus facility to step inside a Level D full-motion flight simulator. You’ll see:
My first time using a side-stick and Heads-Up Display (HUD).
A comparison of how the A220’s flight characteristics feel compared to a PPL-level aircraft like a Cessna 172.
A full ILS approach into Mirabel (CYMX) from Inara, just like the real flight I flew earlier that day!
The "crazy" realism of full-motion technology—from the vibration of the gear deploying to the rumble of the engines.
