↡ Bouldering progression and falling ↡
After travel restrictions lifted, the Drey was the first outdoor climbing project I set my sights on.
Naturally, I hoped to put together a bouldering progression video that ended with a send, but climbing doesn’t always work that way.
Instead, this is a look at all the falls that make up 99% of rock climbing, especially bouldering.
The Drey is a short 7c sloper-fest at my local crag Caley, which means it’s quick to get to and easy to keeping working on.
Most of the moves play to my strengths, they’re easier to unlock with a big reach and there are no small crimps. However, there’s a few really hard moves in the middle that I just can’t get comfortable on.
I started out with low expectations, but after a few sessions work it actually feels possible.
I’ve found my own beta for the problem, really different from everyone who’s climbed it before. That’s partly because I’m not flexible enough to use the high foot holds until right near the end of the problem. And, it’s partly because I can span out more moves while keeping my feet low.
