I wrote this in December 2022 when the winter blues set in. Spent New Years Eve recording a demo of it. Sent it to @Prodbykala because he's my music man
He said he really liked it, I believe he referred to it as a "masterpiece" which was really kind of him. I know he meant it, but all I really cared was that I felt better getting some stuff off my chest y'know?
A few days later he said "I can't stop listening to this demo" so I was like "wanna sing it w me?" and he said "okay, even the sad verse about your wifey?" and I was like "yeah dude we're both married men with broken brains, I know you'll lay into those words as much as I would"
He absolutely crushed his parts. I can't imagine this song without his voice on it. The Todd Version is like a 6/10, maybe a 7. Kala is like musical MSG - makes everything amazing just by showing up. Tenouddaten
When I was in LA to shoot the music video for 'Lately', we shot this as well. Dan Nye came and played my psychiatrist, he's an amazing dude. Kala's wife Emily manned the camera for the performance footage, she's awesome. Really stoked she was able to be there with us.
Speaking of awesome people: Erin Ay, Cort Maclean, Steve Wyshywaniuk, Kolbie Jones and Sanjana Kumar all helped us so much behind the scenes making these videos happen.
Prepping sets, setting up lights, helping us make sense of the incredible selection of equipment at the S71 facility. They let us focus on creative decisions, by circumventing the technical aspects for us. Absolute angels, all of them!
