Today I finally made my way to one of the most incredible places I've seen in the Philippines — the famous Simala Shrine in Sibonga, Cebu.
The first thing that hit me was the architecture. From a distance, this place looks more like a massive European castle than a religious shrine. And once you get inside and start walking around, there is even more to see.
I had heard about Simala before, but seeing it in person was a completely different experience. The size, the details, the atmosphere, and the number of people who come here make it a fascinating place to explore.
What surprised me even more is that the shrine isn't some ancient Spanish-era castle. The Marian Monks established the monastery here in 1998, and the enormous complex has developed and expanded over the years.
I love getting away from the typical tourist stops and finding places that give me a different perspective on the Philippines. Simala definitely did that.
