Today I spoke with Diane Green, who placed her faith in Jesus as a young adult but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart.
We touched on many topics, including:
• Not growing up in a Christian household but starting to go to church as a young adult.
• Enduring the trauma of an abusive marriage.
• Going to prison briefly, reading the Bible there, and committing her life to Jesus.
• Starting to question the validity of the New Testament, followed by questioning to validity of the Old Testament.
• Deciding to elevate facts over faith, think critically and ask questions, and to get better educated about science as she re-shaped her worldview.
• Realizing, from the story of Job, that the Yahweh character is not loving.
• Rethinking slavery in the Bible as well as in recent history.
• Deconverting from Christianity and reclaiming her life.
• Enjoying her newfound freedom after escaping Christianity.
