Milton underwent rapid intensification overnight and is now a major Category 5 hurricane.

It's currently on a path toward Florida population centers, including Tampa and Orlando, threatening a dangerous storm surge in Tampa Bay and setting the stage for potential mass evacuations. This is happening less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene.

Milton is expected to remain a Category 5 storm with wind speeds increasing to 165 mph by tonight as it tracks along the Yucatan Peninsula before turning northeast Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
