With Hurricane Lala scraping past South Point on the Big Island and exhibiting all kinds of interesting behaviour, we now have another real world piece in the puzzle of the incredible interaction between the huge Big Island mountains and nearby hurricanes. We’ll look at the fascinating behaviour of Lala during it’s approach and passage and compare that with test simulations conducted a long time ago that looked at how different the storms could have been if the island mountains did not exist.
