1985 was an active hurricane season with 6 hurricanes making landfall in the US. Four of those hurricanes were in the Gulf of Mexico and two of them had loopy tracks. Elena in early September and then Juan in late October. These two storms were a great example of how steering wind can result in storm tracks that complete loop around and sometimes backtrack.
