More than 100 runners and supporters gathered at Susquehanna Township High School this weekend as former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Harrisburg native Jawon Chisholm hosted the third annual “Run With Jawon” a free community 100-meter race that has grown into what organizers recognize as Pennsylvania’s largest event of its kind.
Held in celebration of Men’s Health Month, the event welcomed participants ranging in age from 5 to 56 years old, proving that fitness has no age limit. Whether competing for first place or simply crossing the finish line, every participant shared the same goal—embracing a healthier lifestyle while strengthening community connections.
“It was another awesome and amazing event,” Chisholm said. “I appreciate everyone who pours out into the community every day. I appreciate everyone coming together to support each other and show love. Fitness is very important and its never to early or too late to set a fitness goal to better your lifestyle”.
The annual race reflects the mission of Struggle to Succeed Fitness, the health and wellness company Chisholm founded after his professional football career. As CEO, Chisholm has transformed his own life experiences into a platform that promotes physical fitness, mental wellness, and personal resilience throughout Central Pennsylvania.
“Whether you’re racing to win one of our prizes or just trying to get across the finish line, we want you here” Chisholm said. “This event is all about building confidence, encouraging others, and trying to be the best version of yourself.”
Long before inspiring hundreds through fitness, Chisholm was one of Harrisburg’s most accomplished athletes.
A standout running back at Harrisburg High School, he earned Mid-Penn Commonwealth First Team honors as both a junior and senior, was named Offensive Player of the Year, and still holds the school’s record for six touchdowns in a single half.
His success continued at the University of Akron, where he became one of the greatest running backs in program history. Chisholm finished his collegiate career as only the fourth player in school history to surpass 3,000 rushing yards, ranking second all-time in rushing yards while also setting the standard for receptions by a running back.
His performance earned him an opportunity with the Pittsburgh Steelers, fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing in the NFL.
Behind the athletic accomplishments is a story of perseverance.
Growing up in Harrisburg, Chisholm overcame significant adversity, including surviving a gunshot wound to the leg at a young age. After his football career ended, he battled depression and weight gain—challenges he now openly shares to encourage others facing similar struggles.
Rather than allowing those hardships to define him, Chisholm became a certified ISSA trainer and launched Struggle to Succeed Fitness, a company dedicated to helping individuals improve both their physical and mental health.
Through personal training, mentorship, motivational speaking, and community initiatives like “Run With Jawon”, Chisholm has made it his mission to demonstrate that true strength extends far beyond athletics.
Since launching Run With Jawon in 2024, the event has welcomed hundreds of participants while becoming more than just a race. It has evolved into a community celebration focused on health, wellness, and positive encouragement.
For Chisholm, the finish line isn’t measured by who crosses first—it’s measured by every person willing to take that first step toward becoming healthier.
As Pennsylvania’s largest community 100-meter race continues to grow, so does Chisholm’s impact as both a business leader and mentor, proving that the greatest victories often happen long after the final whistle.
Through Struggle to Succeed Fitness, Jawon Chisholm continues to use his platform to inspire healthier lifestyles, advocate for men’s mental health, and remind every participant that success begins with showing up.
