Today we’re celebrating a remarkable breakthrough in our fight to stop wildlife electrocutions in Nosara, Costa Rica, and it happened because of YOU! LINK IN CHANNEL BIO!
Last year we launched our Esto No Es Pura Vida petition to confront a national crisis of unsafe electrical infrastructure that injures and kills wildlife every day.
Together with charities and rescue centers across the country, we built a nationwide coalition, gathered thousands of signatures, and called for real accountability. The petition urged authorities and utilities to enforce existing wildlife protection laws, insulate exposed power lines, fix dangerous transformers, and publish clear timelines for safety upgrades.
Backed by this public mandate, our legal team filed a motion arguing that MINAE and ICE are in breach of Article 50 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to a healthy and ecologically balanced environment.
The court has now ordered both agencies to act within six months to address the uninsulated power lines across Nosara. If they fail to comply, penalties may follow.
