The new Huawei backed Luxeed RX is coming directly after the Xiaomi YU7 with up to 852 kilometers of range, advanced autonomous driving technology and Ferrari design influence. With pricing starting at 299,800 yuan, this new electric coupe sport utility vehicle is entering one of China's hottest electric vehicle battles.
Developed by Luxeed, the electric vehicle brand created by Huawei and Chery, the RX combines a sleek coupe inspired body with Huawei's latest electric vehicle technology. It measures 5,020 millimeters long and rides on a 3,000 millimeter wheelbase, putting it remarkably close to the Xiaomi YU7 in both size and market positioning.
Power comes from either a 277 kilowatt rear electric motor producing approximately 371 horsepower or an all wheel drive system combining 160 kilowatt and 277 kilowatt motors. Huawei's latest electric drive technology allows the motor to reach speeds of up to 21,000 revolutions per minute.
The Luxeed RX can also deliver up to 852 kilometers of China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle range and features an advanced sensor package with 4 Light Detection and Ranging units and 38 fused sensing sensors. The higher specification version has been engineered around Level 3 autonomous driving capability with redundant power, communication, steering and braking systems.
Adding another interesting dimension to the story, the RX was designed by former Ferrari designer Werner Gruber, whose previous work includes the LaFerrari and FXX K. Its chassis was tuned with involvement from former Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer Tobias Moers.
With Xiaomi, Huawei and other Chinese technology companies pushing deeper into the automotive industry, the Luxeed RX versus Xiaomi YU7 battle could become one of the most interesting electric vehicle rivalries to watch.
