This story was written by Mr. H.P. Lovecraft, and originally ran in Weird Tales, February of 1924. In between this story and The Lurking Fear (visible here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNGVCw_DBevTRQkZllQPl-tQ6cwVdZCoe) I have to wonder if Mr. Lovecraft had something against the Dutch. Or maybe he just thought the Netherlands were a good setting for Gothic horror; I don't know. This story is also notable as being the first appearance of Mr. Lovecraft's famous (fictional) tome of forgotten lore, the Necronomicon.
