About this video: Steam Family lets you share eligible games with other people in your family without buying another copy for every account. This video shows you how to create a Steam Family, invite adults or children, manage game access, and understand which titles can and cannot be shared.
Before setting one up, we take a look at what a completed family looks like. Adults can be added as members, while child accounts can be limited to specific games from your library. Child accounts can also request access to games or ask to purchase a title, and those requests appear in Family Management. You can review playtime and activity history from the same page.
Not every Steam game supports family sharing. Some titles are excluded because they require a separate third-party launcher. For example, GTA games use the Rockstar Launcher, so they cannot be shared through Steam Family even when they are already in your Steam library.
To create your own family, open Steam and click your username in the top-right corner. Select Account Details, then choose Family Management from the left-hand side. Click to create a new family, enter the name you want to use, and confirm the creation.
Once your family has been created, click to invite a member and select someone from your Steam friends list. Choose whether to invite that person as an adult or a child, then confirm the invitation. The invite will show as pending until they accept it, and they can also receive an email notification about joining the family.
If the person is not already your Steam friend, click Friends at the top of Steam and select Add a Friend. Enter their friend code or search for their profile username, add them, and then return to Account Details and Family Management to send the family invitation.
