FireWalk | How To Use A Reference Track To Improve Both Your Mixing & Arrangement @FireWalkMusic | Uploaded April 2018 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
This video will show you how to use a reference track in order to get a cleaner and more professional-sounding mix. Reference tracks are used by many professionals and can be a very powerful tool when it comes to getting a better mix. This is a trick professionals use all the time when mixing and mastering. Plugins like this makes the job much easier. If you're a music producer who's struggling with mixing and mastering then this technique will come in very handy.
It allows you to get a more objective view on your own mix, by comparing it to a commercial track that has been professionally mixed and mastered.
By studying a professional track, and analyzing the mixing and mastering you can better adjust your own mix to sound similar to the commercial track.
If you use a plugin such as the reference plugin shown in this video, it will also compensate for any difference in volume, which can also come in very handy. Usually, when comparing your own premaster to a fully mixed and mastered track, it will tend to sound dull and lifeless in comparison. That's not so much of a problem using a plugin such as the reference 2 for example.
