How to get Surf in Pokémon Pokopia! In this step-by-step guide, I show you exactly how to unlock the Surf transformation so you can swim across water and explore new areas of the game.
Surf is taught by Lapras, but before you can meet Lapras you first need to create the Tropical Seaside habitat near Bleak Beach.

Step 1 – Create the Tropical Seaside Habitat
Go to the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center and use your Rototiller to pick up four hedges nearby. Then head down to the beach and find a palm tree close to the sea. Place the hedges so they connect the ocean to the palm tree to create the Tropical Seaside habitat.
Step 2 – Find Lapras
Lapras is a common spawn in this habitat, so after creating it you should see Lapras appear within a few minutes.
Step 3 – Complete Lapras’ Request
Talk to Lapras and accept his request to clean up mud on the beach. Bring Piplup with you and clean 80 muddy tiles.
Step 4 – Learn Surf
Once the mud cleanup is finished, talk to Lapras again and he will reward you with the Surf transformation, allowing you to travel on top of water.
Surf opens up new exploration routes and lets you reach areas that were previously inaccessible, making it one of the most useful abilities in Pokémon Pokopia.
