How to Turn Off AirPods When Not Being Used
Unlike many wireless earbuds, AirPods do not have a power button. Instead, they automatically turn off and enter a low-power sleep mode when placed in their charging case.
Method 1: Put Your AirPods in the Charging Case (Recommended)
Place both AirPods into the charging case.
Make sure each AirPod is seated properly.
Close the charging case lid completely.
Your AirPods will automatically:
Disconnect from your device.
Stop searching for Bluetooth connections.
Enter a low-power sleep mode.
Begin charging if the case has battery power.
Method 2: Turn Off Bluetooth
If you don't have your charging case:
On iPhone:
Open Settings.
Tap Bluetooth.
Turn Bluetooth off.
On Android:
Open Settings.
Tap Bluetooth.
Turn Bluetooth off.
On Windows or Mac:
Turn off Bluetooth or disconnect the AirPods from the Bluetooth menu.
This disconnects the AirPods from your device, but they are not fully powered off. They will eventually enter a low-power state on their own.
Method 3: Disconnect Without Turning Off Bluetooth
If you still want Bluetooth enabled for other devices:
Open your device's Bluetooth settings.
Select your AirPods.
Tap or click Disconnect.
This stops the connection, but the AirPods remain powered until they go into their automatic low-power mode.
Important
There is no manual way to turn AirPods completely off while they are outside the charging case. Apple designed all AirPods to manage power automatically.
For the best battery life, always store your AirPods in the charging case with the lid closed whenever you're not using them.
This guide works with AirPods Pro 1, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 1, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods 4. #airpods
