Lot of us are using compact cameras for closeups and macro images. But the best macro focusing capabilities usually are not achieved how you may think they are. In this tutorial, I will show you how to take better closeup images using a 1.0-inch travel ultrazoom Panasonic Lumix TZ100 (ZS100). The same approach may by applied to Lumix TZ200 (ZS200) ultrazoom camera and may other compact cameras.


The trick is to find the best ratio between longer focal length (narrower angle of view) and smaller focusing distance. These two thing are normally going against each other. So, I have found the best "sweet spots" for you in our reviews.


Lumix TZ100, ZS100: 44mm EQ focal length (last 0.05m position on the screen, 0.7x EQ magnification, 3 cm from lens)
Lumix TZ100, ZS100: 67mm EQ focal length (last 0.1m position on the screen, 0.55x EQ magnification, 8 cm from lens)
Lumix TZ200, ZS200: 36-39mm EQ focal length (0.7x EQ magnification, 4 cm from lens)
