How do you keep striking when you’re completely gassed out? That’s the question I got from a fan, and it’s a good one.
First off, let me say this: you should never be tired if your preparation is right. But hey, sometimes things go sideways. Maybe the fight pace is nuts, maybe you ate something bad before the match (trust me, watch out for shellfish and lamb), or maybe you’re just having an off day. It happens.
But here’s the key: when you’re gassed, your body steals oxygenated blood from your limbs and redirects it to your breathing muscles, because if your breathing fails, you’re done. That’s why so many fighters lose their power and snap during a fight. They can’t breathe efficiently.
The solution? Train your 11 pounds of breathing muscles—yes, you heard that right—11 lbs of them, including your diaphragm and intercostals. Your lungs don’t move on their own—they’re just bags. It’s the muscles around them that do the work. So if you train them properly, they become more efficient, and guess what? You delay gassing out.
That’s what my O2Trainer is for—inspiratory muscle training. Olympic endurance athletes do it. Pro fighters should, too. It takes just 4.5 minutes a day, and over time, it’ll completely change how your body handles pressure, cardio, and fatigue.
In this video, I break it all down:
• How to breathe when you’re exhausted
• Why you should avoid kicks when gassed
• How to use movement and timing to conserve energy
• The science behind what your body is really doing when your tank is empty
• How to warm up your diaphragm before workouts for a quick stamina boost
• And why stretching your intercostals can immediately improve your breathing and endurance
You don’t have to quit when you’re tired; you just need the right tools.
