To prevent games from crashing on Windows, ensure your PC has sufficient physical RAM, properly configure virtual memory (page file), and optimize memory allocation for games and background processes
1. Configure Virtual Memory (Paging File)
Virtual memory uses disk space as extra RAM, helping your system handle memory-intensive games.
Steps to configure virtual memory:
Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
Go to Advanced → Performance → Settings → Advanced → Virtual Memory → Change.
Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives".
Select the drive for the page file (preferably your fastest SSD).
Choose Custom size:
Initial size: 1.5 × your RAM (in MB)
Maximum size: up to 3 × your RAM (in MB)
Example: For 8GB RAM (8,192 MB) → Initial = 12,288 MB, Maximum = 24,576 MB
Click Set → OK, then restart your PC to apply changes.
Tips: Keep at least 10–20% free disk space on the drive used for virtual memory to avoid errors or slowdowns. Using an SSD for the page file improves performance compared to an HDD
