You can prevent apps from turning on your Android screen by managing notification settings, using battery optimization, and controlling background activity for individual apps
1. Adjust App Notification Settings
Every app that sends notifications has options to prevent it from waking your screen:
Swipe down from the top and tap the Settings (gear icon).
Go to Notifications App notifications.
Select the app that frequently wakes your screen.
Tap Silent under the Alerts section. This ensures notifications won’t produce sounds, vibrations, or automatically light up the screen.
If preferred, you can toggle Allow notifications off completely to disable notifications for that app.
Some apps may offer in-app notification controls, such as Snapchat. Within the app, navigate to notification settings and look for options like Wake Screen and turn it off
2. Limit Background Activity and Auto-Start Apps
Apps running in the background or set to auto-start can trigger the screen to turn on. Controlling this behavior helps reduce unwanted wake-ups:
Disable Background Activity for Individual Apps: Go to Settings Apps select the app Battery toggle Background activity off. This prevents the app from performing tasks when not actively open
Battery Optimization: Enable Battery Optimization/Doze Mode in Settings Battery Battery optimization for the app. This limits background activity when the screen is off
Limit Background Processes via Developer Options: Enable Developer Options (tap Build Number in Settings About Phone seven times). Then, go to Developer Options Background process limit and select options like No background processes or limit to a certain number of processes
