When we start learning this trade sometimes we wonder how to sew or attach two panels. We ask ourselves how do I sew these panels?
This panel goes on top and this other at the bottom or on the contrary?
Of course, it can be done in both ways, but usually a rule is created by common sense and make us to do it that way.
Consequently, common sense says that the edges of narrow boxing pieces should go on top and their edges should be sewn down to the bigger flat piece at the bottom.
It means the boxing piece should be manipulated over and around the edges of the bigger flat piece.
The flat piece at the bottom should remain with its shape without folding it not at all.
This rule applies for car upholstery and furniture. In next videos I will show how to sew circles and other well known geometric figures and irregular figures too.
I have given 10 mm European measure) to the seam allowances. But 1/2" of an inch(1.25 cm American measure) also works out for cushions and car seats.
It could be less such as 5, 6 or 8 mm, for certain upholstery projects. But for cushions it is advisable no less than 10 mm or 1/2" to avoid tearing of the material (vinyl,fabric, leather, etc.) seams.
