There’s something magical about making your own pillowcases! In this sewing tutorial, Jeanette shows you how to sew a pillowcase using the brand new Tilda Merry Little Christmas fabric collection. This festive sewing project can be used as a handmade pillowcase or even adapted into a charming Christmas Eve Santa Sack.

We really love the gentle, nostalgic range of this Tilda Christmas fabric range with Nordic traditions and Tone’s Danish grandmother’s unique Christmas style. A warm blend of cosy reds, duck egg blues, creams and greens creates an inviting festive palette for your bed spread which can be used all year round. It will make your handmade holiday creations feel truly special.
We love Tilda fabrics for bedding as they are premium quality with a higher thread count, OEKO-TEX®, Class 1 certified and washable at 60 degrees plus can be tumble dried. It's ideal for quilting, sewing pillowcases, and festive crafts.
Dimensions:
Finished pillowcase will fit a UK size pillow of 29" x 19" (74 x 48 cm). If you're based outside of the UK you'll need to adjust your sizes accordingly.
You need 3 contrasting fabrics.
Front
Main panel (1) 23" x 20.5" (if using a directional fabric use a pin to highlight the top)
Cuff (1) 14.5 x 20.5"
Flange/Fillet (1) 2.5" x 20.5"
Ruffle - 2 3/4" x 42" (to make a ruffle 20.5" in length)
Back
(1) 37" x 20.5"
Jeanette used a 1/4" throughout.
NB: if you want to use a single piece of fabric for the front and back you will need a piece of fabric measuring 59" x 20.5"
