I've wanted a small fish pond for a while and started gathering materials for this medium size project. I hauled in 100 yards of clay and started to buy a few tons of Sodium Bentonite in plug size. I dug a hole and placed 3 inches of clay and followed with a blanket of sodium bentonite. I feel the layer of bentonite works best compared to a mix layer but others have also had success with the mixed method. I then applied another 3 inches of clay to cover the bentonite and waiting to compact the clay liner now. I recommend using a sheep foot roller for the best results.
