This song is really personal to me. No one really talks about the feeling of one returning home from another country, whether it is just a short trip or you have been building a life there for a few months or years. People always just warn you that you may have to adjust to a new country. But for me, the most devastating and helpless feeling was returning from another country. For the few months living abroad totally on my own, I have developed a way of life, makes a new circle of friends, persuing my dreams and working my way to get there. It feels like an accomplishment of becoming who I really am. Yet going back home scares me because you are not the "same girl" as you were back there. I was afraid going back will change the new me that i built so hard. I didn't want to pause the way I am becoming. As I flew back home, everything felt so strange, I had trouble walking into my door as the little girl who lived there kept reminding who I was. It felt weird walking on the wooden floor it felt weird looking at my room where i lived there my most life.I remember i didn't want to do anything but i just sat there on the floor for a few days, I cried. I was helpless. I did not let anyone know that I was back because i thought maybe if i didn't inform them, part of me is still in another country.
Readjusting and embracing the "new" home was hard. It took me a week to come to realize I could still keep the new me I am becoming and inject the things i love and the way I am into my home life. And it works. I am still an acoomplished "me" person, starting to live a new, normal life.
