This is a guide on replacing a screen on a Lenovo ThinkPad X13.
Insert a plastic pick between the bezel and the LCD on the inner side.
Move it along the perimeter. Insert a plastic pick between the bezel
and the LCD screen on the outer side and move it along the edges.
The bezel is heavily glued and it will take some time and effort to
detach it from the back cover. Separate the bezel at the bottom edge.
Turn the laptop sideways and using plastic pick release the bezel near
the hinges. Set the bezel aside.
The LCD screen is glued to the back cover with two pieces of tar/glue.
at the top. Using heat gun warm up the top edge of the back cover.
Using plastic pick pry off the screen on the right side. Use an
X-ACTO knife cut the piece of tar holding the screen.
Using the same technique release the screen on the left side.
Place the screen on the keyboard. Unfortunately we damaged
the EMI shield tape. But it will not effect the laptop performance.
Peel off the clear tape securing the video connector. Open the
connector’s bracket. Disconnect the video cable. Discard the old screen.
Place the new screen on the keyboard. Reconnect the video cable.
Close the connector’s bracket. Secure it with clear tape.
CAUTION! It is very important not to force any connectors. Also
make sure not to twist or slant the connector when plugging it in.
Now it is time to test the screen. Lift the screen up and lean it against
the back cover. Turn the laptop on. The screen is working and we can
finish installation process.
The bezel still have enough adhesive to hold the screen in place.
Replace the bezel. Start at the bottom. Then go around the perimeter
pressing firmly. Turn the laptop on the side and secure the bezel at
the bottom.
Turn the laptop on. And we are done!
