REPLACING A BROKEN TILE
You just need a few quick tips to help you handle small problems with tile.
First if you have a loose or broken tile you don’t have to redecorate the entire room. All you need to do is remove the tile carefully. Use a stiff putty knife or a chisel and a hammer.
Once you’ve removed the tile scrub the area with steel wool to get rid of the old adhesive.
After the area is clean take a matching tile and apply a tile adhesive to the back of it. You can pick up tile adhesive at your local hardware store of home center. For a strong bond that will last long, use a square notched trowel and actually score the adhesive both on the back of the tile and the wall.
Then put the tile back into place and hold it there for a few minutes putting light pressure on the wall.
If it’s a counter top you are working on, place books over the newly placed tile to add pressure. Let the tile set for at least twenty-four hours.
Finally you can use tile grout or mildew resistant grout to fill in the joint.
You can keep your rooms looking like new if you know how to replace one tile at a time.
