In this video we're going to look at my audio recording workflow. To get started you'll need some kind of microphone.
Microphone Recommendation
I use a USB condenser microphone that connects to my computer. It's not the best USB condenser mic on the market, but this sweet beast cost $100 and comes with a desk stand and shock mount which if you're not an audio guy, makes the microphone look cooler.
I'm also a big fan of the USB condenser mics because you get great sound without a pre-amp or mixing board which saves you money and space.
I also picked up a pop filter so I don't have to worry about popping my Ps. This pop filter cost about $10, but you could always make your own using a pair of used nylons. It's your call!
About Audio Software
Next I'll open up my audio recording program. I could use Screenflow for this, but I prefer to use a full featured audio recording program like Adobe Audition. You could also use a free program like Audacity, but if you're an Adobe Creative Cloud member like me, why not just keep it in the family. You know what I mean.
Record Your Script
So, Before I hit record I make sure I have my script ready. I like to stand up when I record because it helps me sound more energetic than when I'm sitting down. Since I wrote my script on Google Drive I can easily pull it up on my phone or tablet and use it as a teleprompter.
From here I just run through the entire script until I get it right. If I make a mistake, I just pause, re-say the line from the start, and keep going. I may even throw a few different versions together. Let's see how I do with our short demo script
Optional Cleanup and Save
So now I have that entire recording to work with. You could just use this as is and cut it into your screencast, but I like to do a little cleaning up of file first.
