Smelling amazing is a legit superpower—but only if you know what you’re doing. Fragrance can make you magnetic or make people want to run in the opposite direction. In this crash course, I break down exactly when to apply fragrance, where to spray it, how to spray it, and when it is too much, so you maximize compliments and avoid becoming “that guy.”
The golden rule? Apply fragrance right after a shower when your skin is clean, dry, and hydrated. A non-scented moisturizer—or even a small dab of Vaseline on pulse points—helps the fragrance sit on top of the skin, last longer, and project better. Speaking of pulse points, your neck is king. Skip your wrists, hair, clothes, and definitely anything south of the border. Heat matters, and your neck does the best job of warming and projecting scent.
Distance and technique also matter. Hold the bottle 4–6 inches from your skin, use a controlled squeeze (don’t mist it from across the room), and let the fragrance do its thing. As for quantity, more is NOT better. In close quarters like work or school, two sprays max. Going out? You can step it up—but for me, three sprays is the sweet spot.
Finally, choose your fragrance wisely. Skip body sprays, skip what your dad wears, skip what every other dude is drowning in. You don’t need to spend $500 to smell incredible—there are amazing options under $200 that outperform overpriced hype, like Pete & Pedro REBEL.
