In this video I show you how to clean stucco using a pressure washer. Basically it is how to clean stucco before painting using a power washer. This will allow you to prepare your stucco for painting. Ideally your stucco wall would be totally clean prior to painting. If you paint stucco that has organic growth on it the paint will flake off over time. Make sure you wear safety glasses when you use the pressure washer and it is advised that you wear boots or heavy leather shoes as well as pants when using the pressure washer. The pressure washer can kick up dirt and debris that can hurt you. The water jet from the pressure washer nozzle can also cut through your skin so make sure you wear pants. I should have worn pants in this video.
I'm using the Troy-Bilt Pressure Washer. The nozzle will clog with corrosion if water is allowed to sit in the nozzle. This creates a dangerous situation if you start the pressure washer with a clogged nozzle. To be safe, inspect the nozzle first before starting the pressure washer. If it is clogged, clean it out with a needle or an awl or a small nail. You should be able to see light through the end of the nozzle as I demonstrate in this video. Make sure your hose is properly connected to the pressure washer and make sure that the pressure washer end and the hose connections to the end and the pressure washer are secured properly. Failure to do so could result in serious injury. Also read your pressure washer operators manual prior to using your pressure washer.
You can see in my other video I paint the stucco using Sherwin-Williams Resilience Exterior Paint. Others have recommended a premium rubber based exterior paint that expands and contracts. This would be important for climates where you have extreme temperature swings throughout the day.
And now for the bonus tip - when you paint stucco with exterior latex based paint, make sure you lightly mist the wall with water. It will make the paint spread more evenly and not use as much paint.
In this video I use the Troy Bilt Briggs & Stratton Pressure Washer. It works well but there are problems starting it after it is stored for lengthy periods. Here are two videos I made where I had problems starting it.
