The best way to improve your watercolor paintings is to improve your handling of value. Improving your values means your contrasts are stronger and your painting stands out! If you're struggling with paintings that feel flat and lifeless, try starting with a value study and learning to push your contrasts as you vision your painting in shades of grey, black and white.

In this lesson, I'm using water-soluble graphite to paint architecture. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, so keeping to one colour helps me to focus my attention on painting the shapes and values that I see.

Download this guide that will help develop your ability to see values and paint them successfully. Get it here: bit.ly/2QGwFca
