For today's #worldwatercolormonth daily video, I'm answering a question I get asked pretty frequently - "why don't my neutrals look as pretty as yours?"

Mixing complementary colors to get "mud" is a wonderful way of bringing some quiet, complex neutrals to your painting. They will make the pure colors look more vibrant and create lovely transitions between more saturated hues. Mixed neutrals can also help unify your color palette and make your painting more harmonious, but there is a little bit of finesse that can help you create lovely neutrals that don't look flat.
