In today's video I show my process for building the base cabinets of my new miter saw station. This was accomplished by breaking down 11 sheets of plywood(7 being 3/4" and 4 being 1/4") using my track saw and a mobile base large enough to break down the full sheets.
To assemble the cabinet I used pocket holes which is a fast and strong method of cabinet joinery. For the middle cabinet stretchers I offset the pocket holes so they can be installed without running into the screws from the left and right cabinet stretchers.
The top is made up of two pieces of 3/4" plywood to give me a thick 1.5" top for both cabinets. I glued the pieces together and used a few brad nails to hold the panel in place while the glue dried.
Finally I installed the drawer slides using pre-made shims starting with a 1/4" shim on the bottom drawer and then a 3/4" shim between the remaining drawers.
Stay tuned for part 2 where I make veneered drawer fronts and install solid wood edge-banding around the tops.
