I woke from a dream and thought that I had made this tool and had already been using it. The kind of dream that creates a conflict with waking reality. I set to making it the same day as I would never find it otherwise. This helps me to get it out of my system or I would be constantly thinking about it :D
I decided to use one of the large Ball Bearings that I found at the scrap yard as a weight. I woodturned something similar to a Lidded Box to house the Bearing with room for it to move a little.
I love the result. it is comfortable to use and has no rebound. It works beautifully for Chisel work although my original intent was for tapping joints into place without marking the wood.
It is made from Horse Chestnut and although a Hard Wood, it doesn't mark the Soft Woods that I have used it on so far.
The finished weight of the Mallet is around 1.6kg

I like the idea of making my own Tools, especially if it is a Tool that is not easily found or readily available. Handmade Tools give great satisfaction and for me it is fun knowing that I created something to help me better improve my woodworking experience.
