In today's woodworking video I show you my simple method for making picture frames. To begin I CNC the artwork that will be going in the frame using a 30 degree V-Bit that was sent to me by Bits and Bits company.
Now I can switch over to making the frame. To begin I cut the lumber and mill it to 3/4" thick. The frame pieces are 1 1/2" wide. The length for the top and bottom pieces is 13" long with the side pieces are 16" long. To cut the rabbet on the backside of the frame, I use a 1/2" rabbeting bit in the router table. I raise the bit and make several passes until I get to the 1/2" depth.
To cut the miters I use my miter gauge at the table saw. I use a stopblock on the fence to make sure the pieces are the correct length. Next I dye a 1/8" piece of plywood black using india ink. This piece is the backer board. To finish the frames I wiped on a coat of Osmo PolyX. I assemble the frame and hold everything together using picture frame turn buttons and a sawtooth hanger.
