This easy-to-follow, beginner-friendly tutorial walks you through creating a cute and cuddly teddy bear, perfect for knitters of all levels!
This knitted bear is just so cute and a great way to use up bits of left over yarn. You will learn how to cast on, cast off, increase, decrease and pick up and knit stitches.

Here's the full pattern.

Knitted Teddy Bear
Beginner to intermediate - 18-20 hrs
3 MM ( US 2.5) (UK 11) needles
4-ply DK worsted weight acrylic yarn. 2 oz ball for each of 3 colours
Polyester stuffing, black embroidery cotton & embroidery needle, dull end darning needle with large eye

K = knit P = purl Inc = Increase Tog = together

Back of Feet:
-Cast on 10 stitches using body colour yarn
-K 15 rows. Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end
-Cast on 10 stitches with other needle for second foot
-K 15 rows. Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end

Back of Trousers:
-Tie with a knot the yarn colour for your trousers onto the last foot stitch.
-K 28 rows. Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end. Slide trouser to end of knitting needle.
-Now go back to your other foot and tie on trouser yarn and K28 rows as well.
(right side) knit across both trousers to join them together. Tie 2 sides together in middle. (20 stitches in total)
-Knit 20 rows

Back of Sweater:
-Switch to third colour and tie onto last stitch knitted on trousers.
-K 6 rows.
-Turn and cast on 11 (16 for one colour bear) stitches to form sleeve at end.
-Knit row to end, turn and cast on 11 (16 for one colour bear) stitches for the other sleeve. {11, 20,11 stitches)
-K 14 rows
-Cast off 11 (16 for one colour bear) stitches knit 20 stitches and cast off the last 11 stitches (16 for one colour bear) (20 stitches) Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end

Back of head:
-tie on your yarn (the body colour)
-(K1, K2 tog) 3 times, K2 (K2 tog,K1) 3 times (14 stitches)
-K 1 row
-(K1, inc in next stitch) 3 times, K2 (inc in next stitch, K1) 3 times. (20 stitches)
-K 28 rows

Face:
(wrong side) for ears:
Row 1 - K7, P6, K7
Row 2 - K
Row 3 - K6, P8, K6
Row 4 - K
Row 5 - K5, P10, K5
Row 6 - K
Row 7 - K4, P12, K4
Row 8 - K
Row 9 - K3, P14, K3
Row 10 - K
Row 11 - K2, P16, K2
Row 12 - K
Row 13 - K1, P18, K1
Row 14 - K
Row 15 - P20
Nose:
(On right side)
K7, inc 1 in 8th stitch, K4, inc 1 in 13th stitch. knit to end
P 1 row
K9, inc 1 in 10th stitch, K2, inc 1 in 13th stitch, knit to end (24 stitches)
P 1 row
K 14, turn work, P3, turn work, knit to end of row
P 1 row
K 1 row
P 1 row
K 10, K 2 tog twice, K to end. (22 stitches)
P 1 row
K9, K 2 tog twice, K to end (20 stitches)
P 1 row
(K1, K2 tog) 3 times, K2 (K2 tog, K1) 3 times (14 stitches)
P 1 row.
(K1, inc in next stitch) 3 times, K2 ( increase in next stitch, K1) 3 times. (20 stitches)
Purl 1 row.
Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end

Front of sweater:
Attach sweater yarn to body yarn with knot.
Cast on 11 stitches (16 for one colour bear), Knit cast on stitches and the 20 on needle. Turn and cast on 11 stitches (16 for one colour bear) for other sleeve
K 14 rows
Cast off 11 (16 for one colour bear) stitches, knit 20
Cast off 11 (16 for one colour bear) stitches
Attach more sweater yarn
K7 rows for longer sweater. Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end

Front of trousers:
(right side) Attach trouser yarn
K 20 rows
K 10. Turn work and continue to knit 28 rows for trouser leg.
Tie on trouser yarn for other leg. Knit 28 rows.

Front of feet: (right side)
Attach body yarn to trouser leg and K15 rows then cast off. Cut yarn leaving 2’ (61cm) end. Repeat for other foot.

Paws: (omit this step for one colour bear)
(right side)
Pick up and K8 stitches on the ends of the left and right sweater arms with the body yarn to form the paws.
- K20 row. Cut yarn leaving a 2’ (61cm) end

Scarf: Cast on 3 stitches and knit for 13” (33cm). Cast off.

Finishing: Right side facing
EARS: Sew from front to back on the division line between the purl and knit stitches to form flat ears.
Sew the two sides together leaving an opening for stuffing. Stuff with polyester stuffing.
Stitch up the last of the seams
Embroider on a nose, eyes and a mouth with embroidery cotton.
Attach scarf to the back of neck and tie in the front.
