I couldn't keep the pick in my hand without it slipping around and I didn't know how to swipe it across the strings. Well, now I can and do!

How to hold the pick. Hold the guitar pick between the side of your curled index finger and the pad of your thumb. Let the sharp point stick out about a quarter to a half inch, keeping your grip firm enough so it does not slip, but relaxed enough to avoid hand pain.

Steps to Hold a Pick. Curl your finger: Bend your index finger slightly like a small hook. Place the pick: Lay the flat part of the pick on the side of your index finger, near the top joint. Add your thumb: Press the flat pad of your thumb down on top of the pick. Check the tip: Make sure the pointed end sticks out toward the strings.
