I show how to grow a pineapple plant from the top. Pineapples or ananas are easy to grow as houseplants and can be made from the crown of a store-bought pineapple. After you have a pineapple, twist the leaves off the top, Strip off some of the lower leaves to expose the stem, and soak the base in water for a few weeks. You may need to set the stem/stalk aside for a few days to allow the cut to dry before soaking it. This is because pineapples are very susceptible to rot, but I've found better success for myself by not drying them out. So you may need to do some experimentation. Roots should start to grow and after they are a few inches long the crown can be planted in soil. It’ll likely take 2-3 years to get fruit so you can enjoy having a tropical plant until then.

A mature potted pineapple plant will be several feet across and tall, and a mature plant will need a five-gallon planting container. It will take at least a year of growing to get a plant to this size. In appearance, the plant has a short, stocky stem with tough, waxy leaves. When creating its fruit, it usually produces up to 200 flowers. Once it flowers, the individual fruits of the flowers join together to create what is commonly referred to as a pineapple. After the first fruit is produced, side shoots are produced in the leaf axils of the main stem.
The pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a tropical plant with an edible multiple fruit consisting of coalesced berries, also called pineapples, and the most economically significant plant in the Bromeliaceae family. Pineapples may be cultivated from a crown cutting of the fruit, possibly flowering in 5–10 months and fruiting in the following six months. Pineapples do not ripen significantly after harvest. Pineapples can be consumed fresh, cooked, juiced, or preserved. They are found in a wide array of cuisines. In addition to consumption, the pineapple leaves are used to produce the textile fiber piña in the Philippines, commonly used as the material for the men's barong Tagalog and women's baro't saya formal wear in the country. The fiber is also used as a component for wallpaper and other furnishings.
