“The hardest part is getting out of your own way”
I said this to my yoga teacher on the way out of class and he really loved it.
It was like a gut punch of recognition in his eyes
But it’s such a basic sentiment and hardly original
But then again that’s true of most profound things
It’s all so simple
But far from easy.
I was thinking of this concept of spiritual flu and how if we treated our psychological and spiritual setbacks like we treat the flu
Without judging and condemning ourselves,
We would make it so much easier to get back on track.
The weight of guilt buries our wings in the sand
But we got flying to do!
I wrote this poem about it. (Kinda like Dr. Seuss for adults)
Life is a journey
The most peculiar way home
All the ups and downs
And weaknesses we roam
To elevate our mind and set perceptions free
To once again believe
In who we’re supposed to be
The Devil takes us down
Many wrong turn lanes
Scattering our souls
Our hearts and then our brains
Until we get so lost
We know no more the way
We don’t know what to do
Or even what to say
We’ve got a spiritual flu
A sickness cold and grey
The light that’s in our eyes
Has all but gone away
But we can get it back
If we only pray
Asking for his guidance
From presence deep within
Seeking first the father
And seeking him again
Allowing for his light
To touch our hearts again
And knowing we are spirit
Beyond our flesh and skin
Asking for forgiveness
Choosing to repent
We can shift momentum
Back to dreams now heaven sent
Tapping into purpose
Coming clear from him
Our lives begin to flower
Divinity the stem
We become a light again
And set the others free
Free in our reflection
Of who we all can be
The Devil losing grasp
Our souls no longer trapped
Our energy evolving
Filled up and not so sapped
Forgiveness in the shadows
For ourselves and everyone
Our spirits charged and vibrant
And full of dreams to come
