About this video: The command block is one of the most powerful blocks you can get in Minecraft. With it, you can automate commands to have them run automatically. This is great for everything from automatic messages in chat to filling areas and even doing different things with NPCs. The options are endless.
With that, you will need to have cheats enabled in order to craft a command block. This is done in singleplayer by pausing the game, going to the “Open to LAN” option and setting “Allow Commands” to on. Open the world to LAN, and you are good to go.
On a Minecraft server, you will need to give yourself OP. This is done in the console by just typing “op YOURUSERNAME” and hitting enter. You will also need to go the server.properties file and set “enable-command-block” to true.
Now, how do you actually get a command block now that you have things ready for them? First, use the command /gamemode creative. You must be in creative for this to work. Then, run the command /give @s minecraft:command_block 1. You will now have one command block in your inventory.
You can place it down left-click the block to start editing it and add a command.
