I want to share two tips that might be useful for our upholstery channel's followers.
The first tip as you can see in the video is how to flatten the warped cardboard of a car door panel.
I wanted to make new panels but the customer wanted me to repair the same original panels of an old Grand Marquis Colony Park station wagon car.
As the saying goes: 'give the customer whatever he wants'.
The solution is simple and it consists in using an iron and a wet cloth over the distorted areas of the cardboard panel. The soft/even side is useful for this procedure. It lets the steam penetrate into the cardboard core fibers. If a bulky area protrudes to the other knurling side work on this following the same process.
Once you remove iron and cloth aside the cardboard is soft and can be manipulated to its flat position by hand if necessary. The weights complete the process leaving them overnight.
The second tip is how to repair the holes that house the door panel retainer plastic clips. The idea is replacing a circular area with new holes for the clips.
