About this video: This video shows you how to fix Minecraft exit code 1. In this video, we go over all of the fixes we know of. This will take some trial-and-error, as there isn't necessarily a one-size-fits-all solution for exit code 1. However, in most cases, it comes down to one of a few common causes, and we walk through each of them.
The most common cause is an issue with your Minecraft mods. Usually, this means a mod is for the wrong Minecraft version, you are using the wrong mod loader, or you are missing a library or dependency mod that another mod needs to run.
You can also run into exit code 1 if you have two of the same mod installed. Double-check that every mod matches your Minecraft version and mod loader, since NeoForge mods will not work with Forge and vice versa. If a dependency mod is missing, you will need to track it down, and we recommend checking CurseForge or Modrinth for it when you download your mods.
The next most common cause is your graphics drivers. This is most common on PCs and laptops with integrated graphics, but it can happen on dedicated GPUs as well. Before you update anything, it helps to know which graphics your system is actually using. You can find this by opening Task Manager, clicking "Performance," and selecting "GPU" at the bottom of the sidebar, where your graphics card or processor will be listed in the top right.
For AMD systems, head to the AMD Drivers and Support page and either select your specific GPU or processor with graphics or use the auto-detect tool. From there, install the correct drivers for your hardware, and you will most likely need to restart your computer once they are installed. After that, Minecraft should open with Forge.
For Nvidia systems, you will want to update your drivers using the GeForce Experience app. From there, open the Nvidia Control Panel, go to "Manage 3D Settings," and under "Global Settings," set the "Preferred Graphics Processor" to "High-Performance Nvidia Processor." With that done, you can open Minecraft with Forge.
Lastly, exit code 1 can be caused by Java not being installed or by having the wrong version of Java for your Minecraft version. If that is the case, you will want to install the correct version of Java, and you can find our complete guide on getting Java in the description above.
