How to Factory Reset Any Google Nest Hub
A factory reset will erase all personal data, settings, and linked accounts from the device. It cannot be undone.
Universal Method for Most Nest Hub Models (1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and Nest Hub Max)
Make sure your Nest Hub is powered on and plugged in.
Locate the volume buttons on the back of the device.
Press and hold both the volume up (+) and volume down (–) buttons at the same time for about 10–15 seconds.
The screen will show a countdown and then display “Resetting” (or you’ll hear a confirmation sound).
Release the buttons and wait for the device to fully restart (it may take 1–2 minutes).
Once reset, it will boot up like new and say “Hi, let’s get started” — ready for setup in the Google Home app.
Alternative Method (If Buttons Are Hard to Press)
Unplug the power cord.
For some models: Hold the volume button(s) while plugging it back in, then follow the on-screen prompts or button combination.
Via Google Home App (Recommended First Step)
Before doing a hard reset:
Open the Google Home app.
Tap your Nest Hub device.
Go to Settings (gear icon) → Remove device or Factory reset.
Follow the prompts.
This removes it from your account cleanly. Then perform the button reset if needed.
Model-Specific Notes
Nest Hub (1st & 2nd Gen): Use both volume buttons.
Nest Hub Max: Same — press and hold both volume buttons on the back.
Older Google Home Hub (original name): Similar button hold on the back.
After Reset
The device will be completely wiped.
You’ll need to set it up again as a new device using the Google Home app on your phone.
Re-link your Google account, Wi-Fi, and services.
Tip: If the device is unresponsive, unplug it for 10–20 seconds before trying the reset. #googlenesthub
