Hello, I’m Julian Northbrook from doingenglish.com/, another quick one today. How do I express myself in English naturally, somebody asked. Okay.
So expressing yourself in a language well requires three things.
First of all, the language. Obviously, this is essential. You need the phrases, the expressions, the chunks, the blocks of English that you need to express the things that you want to express. If you don’t have this, you’re not going to be able to do it. Makes sense.
You also, however, need knowledge. That is the content that you have in here, ideas, things to talk about, things to share. If you don’t have anything in your head to talk about, well, simply knowing the words, phrases, and expressions isn’t going to help you.
You, also, on top of this, need knowledge of culture. And culture, really, is how people behave in conversation and the way in which you need to tailor your message to certain people. The way that people talk, converse, here in the US, is quite different to the way that people talk in the UK.
Different culture, different style of communication. And in order to express yourself well, you need to really understand that so you’re able to tailor the message to the people that you’re talking to.
So, you need a language, knowledge, and culture. And this is what I call the LKC Triangle. If you want to learn more about this, the best place to go is doingenglish.com and sign up for my free daily emails where everyday at about 8AM Ireland time (although not really at the moment because I’m in the US and I’m working in a completely different time zone). I will send you an email packed with all kinds of ideas, hints, tips, and good stuff for mastering the English language fast.
This is me, Julian Northbrook, signing out. Buh-bye.
