What is this here YouTube channel all about? And importantly, what is it not all about? Hello, I'm Dr. Julian Northbrook from https://doingenglish.com. By combining insights from decades of research in the fields of applied linguistics and applied psychology, I've developed an approach for helping speakers of English as a second language at the higher levels, people just like you, to go from sounding okay in English, but slow an awkward lacking in confidence, to speaking at incredible levels of fluency, naturalness, and confidence. And honestly, I do not believe the effective way to do that is by studying yet more of the same tired old English lessons that you can find on almost any English learning channel here on YouTube. 10 more expressions to blah, blah, blah.
Yet more grammar lessons, yet more lists of vocabulary to memorize and forget tomorrow, that stuff is great for people who are fine with a mediocre level of English. But if you're the kind of person who is just like me and is driven to go far beyond the norm and develop a level of excellence in your English, that's not really going to help you. That was my experience mastering my own second language, Japanese, and it has very much been the experience of almost all of the clients that I have worked with. So this said if I'm not going to give you random English lessons here on this channel, what exactly is this all about?
My goal of this YouTube channel is simple. To change the way that you think about the learning and using of English as a second language in the real world. By taking those insights that I talked about from the fields of applied linguistics and applied psychology, much of which comes from my own research, much of which comes from a huge, enormous wealth of knowledge gathered over decades and decades by the world's greatest minds as far as second language acquisition is concerned, I make videos that promote good English learner psychology.
This really is for deep thinkers. It's for people who want to go beyond mediocracy. It's for people who want to become extraordinary when they speak English. If that's appealing to you, hit the subscribe button and make sure you don't miss the videos that I've got to come. But once again, if this doesn't sound like something for you, that's great. Don't subscribe. Or if you are already subscribed, go ahead, unsubscribe. There are plenty of other places where you can get that more normal stuff.
