A balancé is a step that involves shifting your weight from one foot to the other while traveling side to side or forward and backward. Think of it like a graceful swaying motion that propels you across the dance floor. 🍃

Now, let's break down how to do a balancé step in phases:

Phase 1️⃣ Get into position
Start by standing with your feet in first position, which means your heels are together and your toes are turned out to the sides. Then, shift your weight onto your left foot and take a small step side with your right foot.

Phase 2️⃣ Shift your weight
Now it's time to really get your balancé going! Shift your weight onto your right foot and lift your left foot off the ground. As you do this, swing your left arm forward and your right arm back, so your arms are in a diagonal line.

Phase 3️⃣ Travel side
This is where the magic happens! As you lower your left foot back to the ground, shift your weight back onto it and take a small step back with your right foot.

Phase 4️⃣ Repeat and keep going
Now that you're starting to get the hang of it, keep going! Shift your weight onto your right foot again and lift your left foot off the ground, swinging your arms back into the diagonal line. This time, step forward with your left foot and repeat the whole process again.

And there you have it - a balancé step in ballet! 🩰
Of course, this is just a basic explanation, and there are many variations and nuances to this step that you'll learn as you continue your ballet journey.
It’s easier done than said!
