Hello, I'm Julian Northbrook from https://doingenglish.com. Good question came in. How can I deal with unknown words in conversation? But first, I need to get some coffee. Okay, I have coffee, Costa Rican blend.
So, how do you deal with unknown words in conversation? So there are two layers to this answer, possibly three, but the third is a little bit advanced. I'll go on to that in a second. So first and foremost, if you are doing the learning part right and if you've got the proper English improvement, English learning routine going for you then this shouldn't really be too much of an issue. Because when you're out there in conversation, talking to people, really you don't want to be thinking about all the words that you don't know and all of these little bits of English that are completely new and unique to you, that you don't know. You really just want to let go, relax, just focus on what you can do and leave the learning part for your intensive learning routine.

Now that doesn't mean you will never come across words in conversation that you don't know. Occasionally you're going to, and what you want to do in this situation is the simple thing, ask what does that mean? Now, if you're doing it every five seconds it's going to become really fucking annoying really quickly. So you want to keep it to a minimum, but just ask people. Most people are going to be willing to explain.
Now the slightly more advanced third layer to this answer is that to an extent you also will do well to guide the conversation in a direction that is comfortable for you and easy for you to deal with. That goes a little bit beyond the scope of this video, and really you want to focus on the first two bits of what I've just talked about.
